Panto arrived early at the Liverpool Playhouse this year with a rip-roaring performance from The National Theatre and Children’s Touring Partnership. With a very talented musical cast the show tapped into our imagination right from the start and had you drawn into the story with its witty lines and catchy, musical interludes.
There was a mixed audience on the night but I envied those younger members who obviously had this book on their hit list along with the drama students who absorbed the show full force; got into the spirit, laughed and sang at the right time, not to mention the audience participation of pelting the cast with sponge balls from the stalls – all part of the battle scene act!
On a scale of 1-10, my 11 year old daughter rated it a 10 saying it was “the best, best ever!” with her imagination stretched and her edge of the seat anticipation of the next happening in the story, I could see that it was a show worthy of the West End comments ‘ a terrific production’ – Again for audience engagement it was all there.
If you miss it here, catch up with it at the Blackpool Grand Theatre in May.
