Monday 13th August sees a lavish, free Festival Launch Concert of spectacular Indian music. Following on, a series of electrifying performances demystifying Indian music, some of which is certainly enriching and diverse.
Now in its 27th year, Indika, part of the Milapfest is touring nationally and internationally to promote and forge a new and innovative approach with Indian culture. Looking at this year’s schedule, it really can be put on a par with the Arabic Festival and contribute to the superb cultural programme at play in Merseyside.
In some of the Indian music sessions, you’ll discover how Indian music works – the differences between North and South Indian styles of music, the complex rhythmic patterns of Indian percussion and the importance of improvisation in the Indian music genre.
Check out on Friday 17th August the Nirmanika Dance Company from Singapore and Sunday 19th August features Maya – recognised as one of the finest Bharatantyam dancers of our time – a delight to watch!
