Pride in Liverpool at St. Georges Hall.
The event PRIDE IN LIVERPOOL took place this week, it was the first time but I think it will go from strength to strength. The creation of Val Price who recognised the pride felt by Scousers, always there but which had grown over 2008 European Capital of Culture . People from all areas of Liverpool recorded their histories and memories and displayed them for others to share so they would not be forgotten. I particularly enjoyed the live performances from BERYL MARSDEN who came back to Liverpool for this weekend, she still has her powerful voice her own sense of style and rhythm as good as ever . I remember her bouncy enthusiastic ‘Baby It’s You’ and her first ever recorded song,’ I Know’ (you don’t love me no more). Beryl lives and works in London and admitted she misses Liverpool and returns home often. Singer Steve Macfarlane accompanied by Billy Hui wowed the audience and ‘The Singing Club’ of Liverpool (Singing our Socks Off) gave a lively performance . www.sosoclub.co.uk if you want to find out more and join them, they have workshops at Southport,Bootle, Hunts Cross and Blundellsands. I enjoyed this event and applaud the hard work of every one who took part , It deserved more support from the public.
