Art in the Suburbs

Went to Nic Corke’s gallery in Aigburth Vale tonight to view an exhibition by local artist John Fitchett.

The exhibition is mainly a collection of John’s watercolours entitled Abstraction and Nature. Very delicate and pretty abstract watercolours representing natural scenes, influenced by the artist William Tillyer.

What really caught my eye though was an abstract sculpture which was actually a bird table!

If you want your back garden to look contemporary and chic this is the bird table for you. A sheet aluminium construction which looks like a feeding bird made from leaves. Very minimalist and simple but entirely functional as a bird table.

I’m sure Habitat would stock this if they got the offer.

Great to see an art gallery set up out of town too, and exhibiting artists who live in the neighbourhood.

This really is local art for local people!!

Abstraction and Nature is running for this week only. Corke Gallery is open 1pm – 6pm except Friday when it closes at 5pm.
