LIVERPOOL BIENNIAL & THE JOHN MOORES PAINTING PRIZE.
Well yes the title says it all. What an exciting day and it’s only day one. Paul and I have been with the elite in the Art World of Liverpool today and wow it’s heady stuff. The press briefing at the St Georges Hall (with all the top art critics, Artists and movers and shakers of Liverpool in 2010) was a wake up call for me . Lewis Biggs ,Director, welcomed the press and visitors and gave us a glimpse of what is in store ,as he so rightly pointed out tremendous work has gone into the preparation of the International Festival of Contemporary Art. It is a huge undertaking , “Liverpool is a great place for artists to work” we have a great heritage in art but also a great contemporary art scene. I liked the sentiment that we should focus on ‘Art that has Value, rather than Price’ . Over the coming months Liverpool is to be’ TOUCHED’ by the presence of the Artists and through the Artists touched physically, intellectually and emotionally. It was certainly electric at the Walker Art Gallery when they announced the winner of the John Moores Painting prize , I physically felt the tension in the room and as I was standing very near to the Five very talented Artists who made it down to the last five from 3,000 entrants I could feel the vibes coming from them . All I can say is I have loved every minute of today its been amazing and thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to get it ready on time. And thanks to the people who gave Paul and I their time and expertise to enable us to blog about it. Paul has some great videos which will be available soon.
