MOBO Awards 2010, Liverpool Echo Arena
Attended the MOBO’s last night at the Echo Arena.
This was a made for TV awards ceremony so not done for the live audience as such. In fact it looked better when watching it on the big screens at the Arena rather than watching the stage itself. Quite strange!
In saying that it was a really happy and fun event with both performers and audience really joining in. I thought Reggie Yates and Alisha Dixon were excellent hosts. Alisha and Reggie were shaking hands with the younger members of the audience off camera which I thought was really nice of them.
The two stand out performances of the night were the opening number by Mark Ronson and his band and a really energetic performance by an artist called Tinie Tempah. Tinie had real energy which projected itself right across the arena. I even saw the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Hazel Williams, dancing!
I must confess though, as a middle aged man I didn’t have a clue what the songs were about and had never heard of most of the acts before! Still, the younger members of the audience enjoyed it and even I was swept along with their enthusiasm. My companion for the night, fellow Champ Kristal, added a note of cynicism when she questioned Professor Green’s academic qualifications!
To be honest, he could be a real professor for all I know!
A nice moment near to the end of the awards ceremony when Merseyside Dance Initiative were given a MOBO. MDI’s work covers all aspects of dance, covers all age groups and engages all parts of our community so very well done to them and credit to MOBO for recognizing the great work that they do.
Went for a pint in the Baltic Fleet after the show to calm down. Back home then to play some Creedence Clearwater Revival tunes. Hope we get this next year though. It’s just great fun!
