1. 1. 11. New Year’s Day Prom.
Great way to start the New Year at the Liverpool Philharmonic listening to great music. The Manchester Concert Orchestra were in fine form ably led by Conductor John Rigby ( nearly a local, born in St Helens and close connections to Liverpool Phil) . Soprano,Sarah Redgwick treated us to O mio babbino caro.’ and sang it with such feeling, she also sang duet with Jonathan Stoughton, and led the flag waving audience in the classic rendition of Rule, Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and There’ll always be an England.( Eat your heart out Albert Hall) I loved the 1812 Overture Op.49 there was a little bit of fun with the audience blowing up paper bags , well they couldn’t get cannons into the Hall and it’s amazing just how much noise a full house can make with paper bags. Then we were instructed how to ‘roll ‘ the paper bags into ‘cannon balls’ and THROW!!! pity the cleaners. All this was topped by the CanCan from the Orchestra and John Rigby. Great fun ! well-chosen feelgood programme.
