Britain’s Biggest Orchestra.
The National Youth Orchestra played at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic tonight and they were totally amazing! Ranging in age from 13 to 18 their expertise totally blew me away. Talent ,ability , amazing concentration ,their focus totally on Conductor Kristjan Jarvi who inspired all with his charisma and technical prowess, all combined to create a great incredibly complex performance. Top that with Tai Murray a Violinist from Chicago who wowed us all with her solo performance of Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto ,’To the memory of an angel’ 1935. Then add Stewart Goodyear of Toronto with his ‘exquisite technique’ as a pianist (his fingers were a blur as they moved over the piano keys) his passion for his music so strong that he carried the audience in the palm of his hand and you have a perfect recipe for a Fantastic magical concert. Such intricate choices of music would keep any orchestra on their toes but the young musicians rose to a level tonight that was truly memorable, finishing with Leos Janacek’s Sinfonietta that left us cheering. Don’t miss their next performance in Liverpool. And I must give a mention to the staff in the Liverpool Philharmonic’s RUBATO Cafe Bar. full marks to them. Pre-performance drinks and supper, good value ,good service and good food. Thanks everyone for a great night.
