Anfield Community Showcase Event,
This event held at the Anfield Sports Centre today was a celebration as much as a Showcase for all the good things going on in Liverpool East. Enthusiastic, determined people who got together to involve and inform the local community what is available to enrich their lifestyles. As I walked in to the hall it was jumping to energetic ZUMBA dancing (good going Gayle!) this is the latest dance/keep fit craze on offer in Liverpool it is such fun. I walked around the hall to see what was on offer Richard Quinn talked to me about energy efficient Homes and what help is available to keep homes warm this winter. (Winter Survival Roadshow, Liverpool Lighthouse. Tues.25th Jan) CORE was represented. An afterschool and parent relationship in schools and the community they offer help to anyone with problems. CHATS. is another organization Liverpool Community Health Ambassadors, and Cathy Edwards working hard for the community invited me to Tuebrook next Thursday 27th at Newsham Adult Learning Building. I’m going to see how they get communities involved in learning and health issues. I received leaflets on Cancer awareness, Lung, Breast, Bowel awareness as Tina said it’s about educating the public about cancer without making them afraid. Merseyview Surgery was represented with access information. ELECT…If you want to start your own business or just want employment advice these are the people to see, they are situated all over the North West. www.elect.org.uk Thanks to Ashleigh and Becky (I had my eyebrows and nails ‘done’) they represented Beyond Beauty N.W. local salon, 23, Utting Avenue. Liverpool Health Trainers Claire, Robert and Mally, were on had to help people to change to a healthier lifestyle. They offer 1 to 1 confidential advice/reviews on all health issues . Exercise, quit smoking/alcohol, weight/lifestyle . No charge. No referrals necessary just get in touch. SIMPLE! No excuse! Finally Learning Champions have students from HOPE University getting involved in community learning experience, Kate ,a Social Pedagogy student from the Wirral ,based at Hope was explaining enthusiastically all about the services available /on offer. Kate didn’t know there was so much on offer. Neither did I but thanks to all the people there today I now do and can pass on the info to neighbours and friends. Also part of PSS Learning Champions, with support from Project Co-ordinator Gill Tarpey, Jacqui McEvoy directly as a result of attending ASCC events now has the opportunity to work with young Mum’s in the area. Jacqui a very talented lady is passing on her ‘Back to Basic’ skills in craft, cookery and Healthy eating using vegetables in her cake recipes and very yummy they are. how is it I always end up talking about Cakes? It was so busy there I feel I have left organisations out. Please feel free to add any one that I have forgotten they all work so hard with such passion for the good of the community . A very interesting event. Thanks Gayle for the Info.
