Liverpool Polish Saturday School
Andre Olchowski certainly gets his taste of culture every week as the Educational Consultant for the Pope John Paul II Polish Saturday School based in Kensington, Liverpool. This was a project that developed well over 10 years ago when the growing number of East Europeans arrived wishing their children have a Polish education and culture with the Polish community so that their return to Poland would be made easier into their own education system. Learners here on a Saturday are all educated in Polish, Polish geography, history, religion, singing and art classes which all contribute towards the pupils diploma qualification as evidence of their continued education.
Says Andre “We started with a small group in the Metropolitan Cathedral crypt and several schools later, have at least 150 on the register. We have participated in Festivals, Parades and cultural events all over Merseyside. Our dance team and costumes are second to none. Giving up a Saturday as a volunteer is the most rewarding experience anyone could ask for.”
