Shanty Kings entertain Visitors when the Queen Elizabeth Cruise Ship comes to Liverpool

It’s Liverpool, 3rd August 2012 and Cunard’s cruise ship, Queen Elizabeth, is in Liverpool for a visit.

I’m Liverpool, and proud to be part of that entertainment as one of the Shanty Kings, not only for the visitors from the ship but the hundreds of people who have come to see this magnificent cruise liner.

In the new cruise terminal at the Pier Head The Shanty Kings, led by Kevin Bargen, sang to the ‘captive’ audience songs like ‘What shall we do with the drunken sailor’, ‘Maggie May’ and ‘The leaving of Liverpool’.  The sounds bellowed through the marquee where many talented and individual Liverpool and local artists and craftsmen had stalls.  Outside the Town Crier stood out in his fine outfit and was in fine voice too!  There were roundabouts for the children and food available, including candy floss.  After the Shanty Kings, the Ukulele orchestra played outside for the watching crowds.  A Carnival atmosphere!

I thought this was a marvellous warm welcome to anyone coming to this City for the first time and am sure all those there will remember the day they visited our great city and will come back again soon.

The Shanty Kings will be at the Liverpool Museum on the 5th August, Bandstand Williamson Square on 17th August and in Liverpool for Merchant Navy Day on 2nd September when the Tall Ships will also be visiting Liverpool.
