WALKING IN AN ARTY WONDERLAND. Winter Arts Market St Georges Hall. 8-9th Dec

Winter Arts Market

I don’t know about you but I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas shopping. Not because of the hustling in and out of shops and the famous reenactment of  ‘ Beyond Tethers End ‘  by the all star parent players but more for my lack of inspiration when it comes to finding that present for “that person.”

Like the Old lady who when laden with enough shopping to make her knuckles white declares ” I only went for a few bits”  well that was me at 5 oclock today leaving St Georges Hall only a few quid lighter but  far more relieved knowing that what was in my bag would surprise and delight my unsuspecting giftees.

Just a few of my ‘ bits’

Like the poster says 120 or more artists & makers plyed their trade and I have to say that what was on display was beyond what I expected. The quality and originality of  the merchandise at times took my breath away . I really was spoilt for choice and so surprised that these small outfits were selling their wares at such low prices. Stall after stall offered an original variation on similar themes whether it was handmade cards , Iconic posters,  hats , bags or Jumpers. There was even a stall selling shaving materials for the conscientiously hirsute man. I was very tempted but opted to keep hold of my unkempt chin warmth as it’s my only comfort in this current climate. There were also several performances by acoustic acts in the old courtroom and  I was lucky enough to catch Garfangle and the Goods for their Christmas themed set.I also treated myself to a sublime chocolate cake that nearly put me in a coma.

As a  lazy shopper who would usually think it adequate to just pop money in a card I left the market  with a renewed enthusiasm for the forthcoming Yuletide celebrations And although I originally only went for a few bits it really didn’t break the bank.

Liverpool getting ready for Christmas !

Half term and Liverpool city centre was very busy today. A nice bright sunny afternoon with shoppers sitting out enjoying a coffee at many of the coffee bars, very continental!   BUT I heard my first Christmas Carol in a shop in Liverpool One and all the   ‘deckies’  are up in John Lewis (very pretty)  . The Christmas lights are up (are they lit at night ??)  and it’s only 25th of October. Looks like they are putting up the Christmas  stalls and possibly an Ice Rink at Liverpool One , I must find out.  I visited Globus Language Academy , near the Bluecoat, Compton House, it is a nice spacious unit , light and airy a good place to be if you are a student of  languages.  Especially when you are being  tutored by Daniel Wilke, who puts 100%   into the success of  the academy and the well-being of the students who are visiting our city , no wonder they all like Liverpool.    daniel.wilke@globus-academy.com
