Liverpool’s St George’s Hall have announced the return of the popular Catacombs Tours from Mon 16th – Sat 21st March, exploring the darker heart of Liverpool’s most celebrated and historic building. Experience The Catacombs of Liverpool’s Darkest History and peel back the layers of yesteryear to reveal what lies within the heart of St George’s Hall’s dark past.

Alan Smith, St George’s Hall Manager said,The popularity of these tours has been incredible with over 4000 people attending and it is wonderful to see these previously unused areas animated in such a way for public use. It shows Liverpool’s love of its history and its fascination in exploring its many beautiful buildings.”

The promenade performances explore the court room and dark cells below the grandness of the Great Hall, where those waiting to be condemned would spend their final moments and in the shadows of Liverpool’s past, spectators will encounter the characters that will tell their tormented tales and illuminate their history.

The Catacombs were previously used as billeting quarters for police and the army during transport strikes, or as a food dispensary and water store during the Second World War, the catacombs and basement galleries will now take on a new and dramatic lease of life.

Join Liverpool’s own premier theatrical performance company Lovehistory for a unique theatrical experience.  Lovehistory have perfected the art of promenade theatre and the dramatic murder mystery experience with dinners within the Great Hall throughout the year and will now create some further spellbinding tours which are a must see for all ages.

The ‘Garden of Lost Souls’ at Croxteth Hall….. The Squeal Deal!

This Halloween the Victorian Walled Garden at Croxteth Country Park will be turned into a nightmare folly of brimming evil as Lovehistory turn this twee genteel place into a brand new terrifying tour experience. A park will be transformed into the stuff of nightmares that plunge the visitor into new levels of terror.

For the Halloween period Lovehistory will bring history alive with the ‘Garden of Lost Souls’.

This is a theatrical tour of horror within the atmospheric Victorian Walled Garden. And what better place to be left in, with the key to this secret garden lost ….with you in it.

This is a place where horror reigns with the undead and ‘scareactors’- the human role-players -waiting to prey on the weak.

The famous hall looms over the high walls of the garden which is almost untouched by time and keeps its secrets securely guarded. It has been said that if you look closely you can see the ghosts of the past hiding-watching you.

On the tour, keep close to the Gate Keeper for he leads you on this menagerie of death.

Dance with the mad widow if she pulls you out of the crowd….. crawl through the tunnel of insanity and be met halfway by an insane with a big chopper.

Squeal when you see the Pumpkin Man come alive!

For this ‘Spooktacular’ event, ‘The Garden of Lost Souls’ will awaken the ghosts of the past and you will hear the soul wrenching whispers and demented cries of the deserted souls lost from our world, forever lost and made to wander the earthly garden you will be in.

On the 21st, 28th, 29th and 30th October, Lovehistory will delve into the depths of history to expose the secrets of the night with this special horror themed homage to all those weird and wonderful 19th century writers and film makers who have made the genre what it is today.

The Tour is definitely a good Halloween bash for all the family, but a word of warning….stay near the Gate keeper and……….watch your back.
Lovehistory has recreated the spine chilling atmosphere of the true Victorian horror by bringing back the ghosts, vampires and ghouls of the past……….to entertain you!
